Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra
More actions
The Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra is the Paris jeweller's clover motif, created in 1968 as a long gold necklace of twenty quatrefoil links and since extended across jewellery and watches. Jacques Arpels drew it as a four-leaf clover charm and named it for the Moorish palace at Granada; every motif is framed by a row of small gold beads that are applied and polished by hand. The watches carry the same clovers along the bracelet, with one slightly enlarged link serving as the dial, inlaid in mother-of-pearl or hardstone such as onyx, agate or malachite. Behind a sapphire crystal sits a Swiss quartz movement, water resistant to 30 m; the bracelet-style Sweet Alhambra dates from 1998. (Sotheby's, aBlogtoWatch)
