The Rolex Bubbleback is the collector's name for Rolex's Oyster Perpetual line of the 1930s through the 1950s, earned by the domed caseback needed to keep the case's overall height unchanged once the thicker self-winding Perpetual rotor, patented in 1931, replaced a manual-wind movement inside. Rolex produced it across references such as the 3131, 3372, and 5015 in a range of dial and case styles before slimmer automatic calibers eliminated the need for the bulge in the mid-1950s.
