Gérard Depardieu (born 1948, Châteauroux, France) is a French actor whose enormous physical presence and prolific output made him the defining leading man of post-1970s French cinema, from Jean de Florette and the title role in Cyrano de Bergerac to a rare American lead as the French businessman Georges Faure in Peter Weir's Green Card.
