George Kennedy (18 February 1925 – 28 February 2016) was an American character actor, a sixteen-year Army veteran whose six-foot-four frame made him a screen heavy before he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as Dragline in Cool Hand Luke (1967); he played Joe Patroni through all four Airport films, Red Leary in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) and Captain Ed Hocken in the Naked Gun trilogy.
