Jane Birkin (1946-2023) was a British-born actress and singer who became a major figure in French culture after moving to Paris in the late 1960s. Her film work ran from Antonioni's Blowup (1966) to the Oscar-nominated short La femme et le TGV (2016), while her musical partnership with Serge Gainsbourg, beginning in 1968, produced some of French pop's best-known recordings. She lent her name to the Hermès Birkin handbag and remained a fixture of Paris cultural life until her death at 76. (Wikipedia)
