Lino Ventura (1919-1987) was an Italian-born French actor who came to cinema from professional wrestling, cast opposite Jean Gabin in Touchez pas au grisbi at thirty-four. His heavy, unglamorous physical authority made him the definitive French policier lead across Army of Shadows, Le Silencieux, La bonne année and La Gifle. He spent much of his later life running a charity for disabled children. (Wikipedia)
