Mariska Hargitay (born 1964) is an American actress, director, and producer who has played Detective, later Lieutenant, Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit since the series premiered in 1999, the longest-running character in American primetime drama history. She won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for the role, and founded the Joyful Heart Foundation to support survivors of sexual assault. (Wikipedia)
