Masato Sakai is a Japanese actor born 14 October 1973 in Kobe, who began acting professionally in 1992 after abandoning plans to become a bureaucrat. He built his reputation through television, including the taiga dramas Shinsengumi! (2004), Atsuhime (2008), and Sanada Maru (2016), and the legal comedy Legal High (2012–2013), before his best-known role as bank officer Naoki Hanzawa in TBS's Hanzawa Naoki (2013, 2020). His film work includes The Wonderful World of Captain Kuhio and The Chef of South Polar (both 2009) and Key of Life (2012); he won the Yokohama Film Festival's Best Actor award and has taken supporting-actor honors from the Nikkan Sports Film Award, Hochi Film Award, and Blue Ribbon Awards.
