Sam J. Jones (born 12 August 1954 in Chicago) is an American actor and former Marine who was cast as the title character of Flash Gordon after Dino De Laurentiis's mother-in-law spotted him on a television game show; he went on to lead the syndicated series The Highwayman (1987–88) and to play a hard-living version of himself in Seth MacFarlane's Ted and its sequel.
