A. Lange & Söhne is a Saxon manufacture Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded in Glashütte in 1845, training a generation of apprentices who seeded the town's watchmaking cluster before Soviet occupation erased the Lange name from dials after 1945. Walter Lange, the founder's great-grandson, revived the marque in 1990 and launched its first four collections, including the Lange 1, in 1994. The manufacture is known for hand-engraved balance cocks, three-quarter plates, and an outsized-date mechanism it patented for the Lange 1. (Wikipedia; A. Lange & Söhne)
