Robert Zemeckis's 2000 survival drama strands FedEx systems engineer Chuck Noland, played by Tom Hanks, on an uninhabited Pacific island for four years after a cargo-plane crash, with Helen Hunt as Kelly Frears, the girlfriend whose photograph he keeps in the pocket watch she gave him. 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks released it in December 2000. Elgin watch

Worn by Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland. The watch is a production-made prop rather than a factory Elgin: Propstore's Los Angeles 2022 live auction (June 2022, lot 97) sold it as "designed to resemble an authentic vintage Elgin pocket watch", with "a faux gold case engraved with floral patterns", a ridged faux-silver crown and "a crystal-plated face labeled Elgin" opposite the photograph of Kelly Frears that Chuck carries through the film; it runs on a battery, and production tarnished and discoloured it to read as aged and water-damaged. Propstore's London 2022 sale (November 2022, lot 102) of the same prop, worn as a necklace with a faux tooth on the raft, describes a watch that no longer opens. Elgin is the design basis the prop copies, not a placement, and the prop names no Elgin model. (Propstore lot 97; Propstore lot 102)
