Le Magnifique, directed by Philippe de Broca, was released in France in 1973 and in English-language markets as The Magnificent One. Jean-Paul Belmondo plays a dual role: François Merlin, a struggling pulp novelist racing a deadline, and Bob Saint-Clar, the invincible secret-agent hero of Merlin's own fiction, styled after Merlin's real neighbor, played by Jacqueline Bisset, as the story's romantic lead.
