Cartier Panthere de Cartier

Worn by Anne Hathaway as Daphne Kluger. Cartier dressed the film as its exclusive jeweller, and the Panthère appears on Daphne near the end, once the Toussaint has done its work. It is the right watch for a woman styled throughout as something to be looked at: the 1983 design reissued in 2017, built so the flat articulated bracelet drapes like a gold chain and the thing reads as jewellery before it reads as a timepiece. Debbie runs the job on a Hamilton, which is the joke the casting of the watch is making: the woman assembling a crew to lift a hundred-and-fifty-million-dollar necklace wears the cheapest watch in the room, because a planner counting down to the second has no use for a watch that draws attention. Hamilton's own watch-spotting record names Debbie Ocean and the Jazzmaster Day Date Auto without resolving which of the line's dial and strap executions it is. A frame from her prison-release scene shows her buckling the watch onto her wrist, the steel caseback engraved "DANNY" with a pair of dice; the dial itself is not resolvable in that frame, so the specific execution still rests on Hamilton's credit rather than frame confirmation. Amita is the crew's jeweller, the one who can price a stone by looking at it, and Cartier dressed her accordingly: the 33 mm Ballon Bleu in 18K yellow gold with 115 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the case.
