Taron Egerton plays Elton John, born Reginald Dwight, tracing his path from a shy piano prodigy in 1950s England through his songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) to global stardom, addiction, and recovery, staged as a string of full musical numbers rather than a conventional jukebox biopic; Richard Madden plays his manager and lover John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard his mother Sheila. Worn by Taron Egerton as Elton John. Egerton's Elton John wears a rose-gold, diamond-set Chopard Impériale with a mother-of-pearl dial. The piece is not simple set dressing: Chopard co-president Caroline Scheufele, a longtime friend of John's and a supporter of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, personally supplied jewelry for the production, and costume designer Julian Day used it to interpret rather than literally reproduce the star's own collection.
