Taron Egerton plays Elton John, born Reginald Dwight, tracing his path from a shy piano prodigy in 1950s England through his songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) to global stardom, addiction, and recovery, staged as a string of full musical numbers rather than a conventional jukebox biopic; Richard Madden plays his manager and lover John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard his mother Sheila. Worn by Taron Egerton as Elton John. Egerton's Elton John wears a rose-gold, diamond-set Chopard Impériale with a mother-of-pearl dial. The piece is not simple set dressing: Chopard co-president Caroline Scheufele, a longtime friend of John's and a supporter of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, personally supplied jewelry for the production, and costume designer Julian Day used it to interpret rather than literally reproduce the star's own collection. Quill & Pad reports that Howard, "who plays John's oddball mother in the film", wears "a pink gold Happy Sport watch that was part of 2018's twenty-fifth anniversary of Happy Sport collection", and captions its product photograph "Chopard pink gold Happy Sport watch with pink sapphires as seen on Bryce Dallas Howard". Its specification box names the Happy Sport Oval, a 31.31 x 29 mm pink-gold case with "40 pink sapphires and rubies in gradient setting on bezel" around the automatic Caliber 09.01-C, and gives no reference number or scene. (Quill & Pad) Sports Hankook's watch column of 6 June 2019 names the execution as the Happy Sport Oval made for the line's 25th anniversary: a 31.31 by 29 mm pink-gold case with pink sapphires and rubies on the bezel and the automatic calibre 09.01-C, then about 28 million won and not stocked in Korea.
