W. D. Richter's 1984 science-fiction comedy, written by Earl Mac Rauch and released by 20th Century Fox, follows Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller), a neurosurgeon, particle physicist, test driver and bandleader of the Hong Kong Cavaliers, whose jet car punches through a mountain into the eighth dimension and frees the Red Lectroids led by Dr. Emilio Lizardo (John Lithgow) to plot the recovery of his oscillation overthruster, with Ellen Barkin as Penny Priddy, Jeff Goldblum as New Jersey and Christopher Lloyd as John Bigbooté. A box-office failure that became a cult film on home video, it ends with a promised sequel that was never made. (IMDb; Wikipedia)
Watches
- Omega Speedmaster Professional
- Worn by Peter Weller as Buckaroo Banzai. Banzai wears a steel chronograph with a black dial and black tachymeter bezel on a steel bracelet, visible at the jet car's windscreen in a frame an Uhrforum member posted in October 2023 and identified as an Omega Speedmaster. The frame shows the Speedmaster case, bezel and bracelet from a distance; the register layout that would separate the manual-wind Professional from the automatic Speedmasters of the early 1980s is not legible, so the Moonwatch is a probable rather than confirmed reading for a character written as a test pilot and physicist.
