The American

Anton Corbijn's 2010 thriller, adapted from Martin Booth's novel A Very Private Gentleman, in which an assassin hides out in Italy for one last assignment. George Clooney plays Jack, a gunsmith and killer who flees a job in Sweden and takes the alias Edward in the mountain towns of Abruzzo, building a custom rifle for a client while a local priest and a woman named Clara pull at what is left of his conscience. Corbijn shoots the Castel del Monte and Sulmona locations with almost no dialogue, which leaves the props doing a great deal of the characterisation. (IMDb, Wikipedia)

Worn by George Clooney as Jack. Jack wears an Omega Speedmaster Professional on a black leather strap with a deployant clasp, and Corbijn returns to it often enough that it functions as a recurring object rather than set dressing. Commentators read the 42 mm steel case and hand-wound chronograph as the previous-generation calibre 1861 reference; Clooney was an Omega ambassador at the time of production.
