Worn by Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Maverick straps on the same Chronograph One more than three decades later. Montres de Luxe independently identifies the watch as the black-PVD Porsche Design chronograph made by Orfina, the same piece Cruise wore as Maverick in the original Top Gun (1986). IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII

Worn by Monica Barbaro as Phoenix. Phoenix wears the SFTI Mark XVIII on a textile strap during training. Hodinkee records that each of Maverick's recruits wears an IWC Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor watch, in Mark XVIII or Chronograph form on green or black straps, after IWC's chief executive met the production in Nevada; property master Robbie Duncan told Hodinkee the higher-ranking characters got Portugieser models and the pilots wore Pilot's Watches. (Hodinkee; Hodinkee) Watches of Espionage's two accounts of Barbaro's watch differ from this row and from each other: its aviation-watch survey captions an IWC image as an "IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVII TOP GUN Edition SFTI", while its IWC history captions a Paramount set photograph as "The IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic Edition 'SFTI'" and explains that the crew, seeing the Navy's SFTI pilots in their custom IWCs, were introduced to chief executive Chris Grainger-Herr, "resulting in almost every character in the film wearing IWCs". Rolex Explorer 1016

Worn by Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin. Penny Benjamin wears a vintage Rolex Explorer ref. 1016: 36mm of steel, black dial, 3-6-9 numerals and a triangle at twelve, about the plainest Rolex ever made. Against the pilots' issued chronographs and squadron-marked pilot watches it is the one timepiece in the film chosen for go-anywhere durability rather than for a unit, which is roughly the role Penny plays in Maverick's life (Time Ticking). Montres de Luxe independently identifies it as a vintage Rolex Explorer worn on her right wrist. Rooster wears one of the IWC Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor watches the production put on its pilots, a black-cased pilot's watch on a black strap in the unit still Hodinkee publishes.
