Wonder Woman finds herself battling two opponents, Maxwell Lord, a shrewd entrepreneur, and Barbara Minerva, a friend-turned-foe. Meanwhile, she also ends up crossing paths with her love interest. Directed by Patty Jenkins and released in 2020, the sequel jumps its heroine forward to Cold War-era 1984 Washington, D.C., where Diana Prince works quietly at the Smithsonian until an artefact that grants wishes returns Steve Trevor to her and hands a failing oil promoter the power to remake the world. Worn by Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. The returned Steve Trevor wears a Casio A168W-1, the steel-braceleted digital with the illuminator button that has stayed in Casio's catalogue for decades. It is a period-appropriate look rather than a period-correct watch: the A168W arrived after the film's 1984 setting, so a pilot from another era ends up on a wrist that is also slightly out of its own time. Maxwell Lord, the infomercial oil magnate whose empire is mostly presentation, wears an all-gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet with a fluted bezel and a diamond-set dial: the loudest possible statement of arrival, and appropriate for a character selling the promise of wealth rather than holding it. UNDONE, the Hong Kong custom-watch brand, listed this US$299 watch on December 9, 2020 as the blue half of its DC-licensed UNDONE x Wonder Woman 1984 collection, limited to 100 pieces in this colour beside a Ruby colourway: the eight-pointed tiara star topped with a genuine diamond at 12 o'clock on a sunburst blue dial, applied 8 and 4 indices "an homage to the movie Wonder Woman 1984", the golden eagle on the seconds-hand counterweight, a gem-set crown, "truth", "love" and "justice" on the case back and a double-tour strap reimagining Wonder Woman's sandals.
