1972 Nagisa no Hotarubi ("1972: Fireflies on the Shore") is a 2025 WOWOW original crime drama directed by Hideyuki Hirayama, adapting Izumi Sakagami's novel of the same name. Set in Okinawa in the final weeks before the prefecture's 1972 reversion to Japan, it follows Ryukyu Police special investigator Shineita (Issei Takahashi) as he races an 18-day deadline to solve an armored-car robbery that threatens to become a diplomatic incident between Japan and the United States. Takataka Aoki, Kaoru Kobayashi, Yu Shirota, Chifu Kiyoshima, Riku Kashima, Takara Sakumoto, Ryohei Hirota, MAAKIII, Kana Kita, Jeffrey Rowe, Shiisaa Fujiki, Bengal, and Ikki Sawamura round out the cast.
