Descendants of the Sun (2016)
More actions

Yoo Deok-hyung directed this KBS2 military melodrama, which ran 16 episodes plus three specials from February 24 to April 14, 2016. Song Joong-ki stars as Captain Yoo Si-jin, a special-forces officer of the fictional peacekeeping unit Alpha Team, opposite Song Hye-kyo as surgeon Kang Mo-yeon; their romance, complicated by his military postings and a disaster-relief deployment to the fictional country of Uruk, made the series a defining hallyu export, drawing a peak domestic audience share above 38 percent and a Grand Prize at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards. Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won co-star as a second central couple, Sergeant Seo Dae-young and Lieutenant Yoon Myung-joo. (Wikipedia)
Watches
- Breitling Navitimer
- Worn by Song Joong-ki as Yoo Si-jin. A personal Naver blog specialist writing under "twostarwoo" names a Breitling Navitimer among the watches "shining on his wrist" ("손목에서 빛나던 브라이틀링의 네비타이머와 크로노맷44") as the piece that first made her notice the model, crediting Descendants of the Sun as the drama that popularized it in Korea. Timeforum's community-run "매체속의 시계들" (Watches in Media) quarterly roundup independently corroborates two distinct Breitling watches on Yoo Si-jin in its 2016 second-quarter installment, describing the identification as already well established by that point. Contemporaneous mainstream press covered the same placement at brand level: Asia Economy (2016-04-05) quotes a market price of roughly ₩7.1 million for "a Swiss brand representative of aviation watches" worn by Song Joong-ki in the drama, and Munhwa Ilbo (2016-05-10) states plainly that Song Joong-ki's Breitling from the drama made the brand newly familiar to Korean consumers. No source sampled ties this specific model to a particular scene rather than the Chronomat 44 below, and none names a reference number for it. - Breitling Chronomat
- Worn by Song Joong-ki as Yoo Si-jin. The same twostarwoo survey names a Breitling Chronomat 44 as the second watch shining on Yoo Si-jin's wrist alongside the Navitimer above; the drama is credited as the author's introduction to both models. Timeforum's 2016 Q2 "매체속의 시계들" roundup independently shows a second, distinct Breitling on Song Joong-ki from the same broadcast quarter, consistent with the two-watch claim. The Chronomat's 44 mm case places it in a materially later generation than the family page's 39 mm 1984 original, but no source sampled names a reference number or ties it to a specific scene.
