The Grand Family (華麗なる一族) is a 2021 WOWOW drama adapting Toyoko Yamazaki's 1973 novel for the third time on Japanese television, following the earlier 1974 film and 2007 TV Asahi versions. Set in 1960s Kobe, it centers on Daisuke Manpyo (Kiichi Nakai), the imperious patriarch of a banking-and-steel conglomerate, whose drive to force a merger favorable to his empire sets off a chain of betrayals inside his own family. Osamu Mukai plays his eldest son Teppei, a steel-company executive whose crisis over his own paternity drives the story's central tragedy, while Taisuke Fujigaya plays second son Ginpei, who works at his father's bank, and Yuki Uchida plays Aiko Takasu, Daisuke's live-in mistress. Broadcast across 12 episodes to mark WOWOW's 30th anniversary, the series ran from April 18 to July 2021. (Wikipedia)
