UFO is Gerry Anderson's first live-action science-fiction series, produced by Century 21 for ITC Entertainment and broadcast across 26 episodes in the UK and Canada from 1970, then in US syndication over the following two years. Set in a then-future 1980, it follows S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation), a secret paramilitary agency defending Earth from alien abductors, commanded throughout by Ed Bishop as Commander Ed Straker. (Wikipedia)
Watches
- Certina Certiday UFO Automatic 5901 173
- Worn by Ed Bishop as Commander Ed Straker. Straker's day-date automatic "service watch," worn in all 26 episodes except a flashback in Episode 14. VintageCERTINAs, a specialist enthusiast archive, identifies it from production stills and the surviving watch itself: the caseback carries a personal inscription from producers Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and Reg Hill, presented to Bishop when filming wrapped, and the watch stayed with him until his 2005 death, after which his family loaned it to the isoshado.org fan archive. The identification rests on this single specialist source and its photographic comparison rather than on a studio prop record. (VintageCERTINAs)Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Certina Argonaut Chronograph 8501 001
- Worn by Ed Bishop as Commander Ed Straker. Straker wears this manual-wind chronograph only in the Episode 14 flashback "Confetti Check A-O.K.", set before he took up the Certiday UFO Automatic he wears everywhere else in the series. The same VintageCERTINAs source that identifies the Certiday supplies this second identification, again from production stills rather than a studio prop record.
