The Casio CMD-40 is the flagship of Casio's early-1990s Remote Control series: a resin digital watch whose module 1174 drives an infrared transmitter behind the red window at 12, letting the wearer operate televisions, VCRs, stereos and CD players from the wrist. Up to sixteen command sets can be learned and stored, and a grid of rubber keys below the twin LCD doubles as an eight-digit calculator alongside the usual alarm, stopwatch and timekeeping. (CasioRestore) The all-in-one keypad-and-remote layout gives it one of the most cluttered, unmistakable faces Casio ever fitted to a 42 mm case; the line was discontinued by the early 2000s, and clean examples now surface on the vintage market rather than in catalogues.
