The Heuer 409 is one of the hand-wound two-register chronographs Heuer sold before the Carrera, which collectors now group as "pre-Carrera". OnTheDash, the standard reference for vintage Heuer, catalogues the 409 as a 34 mm steel case with a 14-karat gold cap, a silver dial and a Valjoux 23, first listed in 1962 at $99. (OnTheDash) TAG Heuer's heritage director Nicholas Biebuyck describes the 409 he chose for Netflix's Senna differently: solid gold around a Valjoux 22, 35 mm across, from around 1955, picked from a brief for "a chronograph and gold".
