The IWC Ingenieur 866AD is the second-generation Ingenieur that IWC introduced in 1967, enlarging the case to 37 mm and upgrading to the automatic caliber 8541B while keeping the soft-iron cage that shields the movement to 80,000 A/m, the antimagnetic engineering the Ingenieur line exists to demonstrate. The "AD" suffix marks the date-equipped execution, distinguished on the dial by twin hour markers and, for the first time on the model, white-gold hands and indexes. IWC built fewer 866-series watches than its predecessor reference 666, making surviving examples comparatively scarce.
