母の待つ里 (Haha no Matsu Sato, "The Village Where Mother Waits") is a 2024 NHK special drama adapted from Jiro Asada's novel of the same name, broadcast in four episodes across NHK BS Premium 4K (16 and 23 August) and NHK BS (21 and 28 September). Kiichi Nakai plays Toru Matsunaga, a workaholic company president who returns to a hometown he barely remembers after 40 years, greeted warmly by a "mother" (Nobuko Miyamoto) whose name he cannot recall; Kuranosuke Sasaki plays Seiichi Murota, a man who lost his workplace and his wife, and Shinnosuke Mitsushima plays Kentaro Tamura, each independently drawn to the same mother in the same remote village. Noriko Iriyama plays Misao Shinagawa, Matsunaga's secretary. Filmed in Tono, Iwate Prefecture, the drama also stars Nanako Matsushima as Natsuo Koga. (Japanese Wikipedia)
