The Movado Museum takes its name and single-dot dial from Nathan George Horwitt's 1947 "Museum Watch," so called after New York's Museum of Modern Art acquired the design for its permanent collection: a minimalist black dial marked only by a gold dot at twelve o'clock, standing in for the sun at high noon, with no other numerals or indices. (Wikipedia) Movado has kept the design in continuous production since.
