The Rado Diastar debuted at the 1962 Basel fair as the world's first scratchproof watch, built from a tungsten-carbide hardmetal alloy Rado had patented that November rather than the gold or brass cases then standard. Its oversized, faceted bezel and integrated tonneau case became the brand's signature silhouette, revived largely unchanged as the DiaStar Original for its 60th anniversary in 2022. (Rado)
