Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694
More actions
The Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694 is the hand-wound Oyster: a 34 mm steel case with a smooth bezel and a flat acrylic crystal whose Cyclops magnifies the date at three. The dial reads "Oysterdate Precision" instead of "Oyster Perpetual" because the movement is wound by hand, which is the quickest way to tell it from the Datejust and Oyster Perpetual Date it otherwise resembles. Rolex settled on the reference in 1958 and barely touched it for three decades, fitting the 17-jewel calibre 1225, a Breguet-overcoil development of the 1210 running at 21,600 vph without a quick-set date. Retiring it in 1989 ended hand-winding across the Oyster line. (Beckertime, Bob's Watches, Fratello)
