The TAG Heuer Formula 1 launched in 1986 as the first new collection of the TAG era, named for the brand's Formula One timing heritage and pitched as an affordable, colorful alternative to TAG Heuer's dressier lines. The original run used polyurethane or fiberglass-reinforced cases in bright red, yellow, blue, and other colors alongside black and steel, paired with a quartz movement, a bidirectional 60-minute timing bezel, and the "PROFESSIONAL 200 METERS QUARTZ" dial text. (Oracle Time) TAG Heuer moved the line to all-steel cases through the 1990s and 2000s; the WA1219 represents that later mid-1990s generation.
