After becoming the prime suspect in a murder, Fletch strives to prove his innocence while simultaneously searching for his girlfriend's stolen art collection. (IMDb) Directed by Greg Mottola, who adapted Gregory McDonald's 1976 novel with Zev Borow, the mystery comedy was released on 16 September 2022 and moves between Boston and Rome as the reporter Fletch turns up a body in his rented townhouse. Jon Hamm plays Fletch in the first screen outing for the character not to star Chevy Chase, alongside Roy Wood Jr. as Inspector Monroe, Kyle MacLachlan as art dealer Ronald Horan, Marcia Gay Harden, John Slattery and Lorenza Izzo. Worn by Jon Hamm as Irwin Fletcher. Fletch wears a 1978 Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 with patinated markers, the first Submariner reference to carry a date under the cyclops. Hodinkee's Danny Milton, who helped prop master Catherine Miller pick the watch, has written that the brief was simply a vintage steel Rolex sports watch, and that a 1970 Daytona ref. 6262 went to the same fitting and lost out. It gets clear screen time twice: at the hotel lunch with the Countess, where Fletch checks the time after being told he is late, and near the close of the film on a hammock by the water. (Hodinkee)
