McClane wears his TAG Heuer 3000 quartz chronograph turned to the inside of the wrist throughout: face protected, the way people who have done real field work sometimes wear a watch. Prop Store later authenticated and sold the film watch, describing a steel chronograph with three subdials, depth markings to 50 m around its circumference and a slim grey leather strap, but published no reference; collectors split on the sub-reference, The Wrist Whisperer giving 202.236 and DC Vintage Watches 232.206. The sequel's own screen-worn watch, sold from the same prop master's collection and described by Prop Store as the same style, is engraved 232.206 on its caseback, which favours that reading without settling what the 1988 watch was.
