Shot documentary-style, this film follows the daily grind of two young police officers in LA who are partners and close friends. (IMDb) Written and directed by David Ayer and released in September 2012, the film rides with two LAPD Newton Division patrol officers through South Central Los Angeles, cutting between handheld cameras, vest-mounted rigs and dashboard recorders for a pseudo-documentary texture. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña play Brian Taylor and Miguel "Mike" Zavala, a partnership Ayer deliberately put ahead of the police procedure, with Anna Kendrick and Natalie Martinez as the women in their lives.
