The Island (一出好戏), Huang Bo's feature directorial debut, was released by Maoyan Movie on 10 August 2018 and became one of the year's biggest mainland Chinese hits, grossing roughly $198 million. Ma Jin (Huang Bo), a low-level office worker daydreaming of a coworker and a winning lottery ticket, is shipwrecked on a deserted island with his colleagues after a team-building outing goes catastrophically wrong, the winning ticket still in his pocket. As the group fractures into rival factions under the bus driver Wang (Wang Baoqiang) and the smooth executive Boss Zhang (Yu Hewei), the film satirizes class, capital, and social order through the survivors' improvised society.
