Carnival Films' drama for BBC One, broadcast from 19 January 2006 to 14 August 2009 and based on Imogen Edwards-Jones's book, follows the staff of a five-star London hotel: general manager Rebecca Mitchell (Tamzin Outhwaite), her deputy and later successor Charlie Edwards (Max Beesley), Tony Casemore (Dexter Fletcher) and Anna Thornton (Emma Pierson). In the fourth and final series the hotel is bought by Sam Franklin (Nigel Harman), whose ex-wife Juliet Miller (Anna Wilson-Jones) becomes general manager. (IMDb; Wikipedia; TVmaze)
Watches
- Omega Speedmaster Professional
- Worn by Nigel Harman as Sam Franklin. In the fourth episode of series four, first broadcast on 17 July 2009, the hotel's new young owner is complimented on his watch by a hotel-industry grandee and answers that it is the watch that went to the Moon with Apollo 11, and that it is priceless. Sports Hankook's survey of Omega on screen (12 August 2016) cites the exchange as the Speedmaster-equals-Moon-landing association in miniature and names the watch as the Speedmaster Moonwatch; the columnist's frame shows a black-dial Speedmaster on a steel bracelet on the owner's left wrist, cuff pushed back. The column names no actor; the owner who buys the hotel at the start of series four is Sam Franklin, played by Nigel Harman. The dialogue and the frame support the Speedmaster Professional; neither gives a reference. (Sports Hankook; Wikipedia; TVmaze)
- Rolex Daytona
- Sports Hankook's survey of the Daytona in film and television (7 July 2016) reports that in the sixth episode of the first series, broadcast on 23 February 2006, the watch worn by the husband of general manager Rebecca Mitchell is a Rolex Daytona. The columnist's two-frame capture shows the man looking down in a leather jacket and, below, the watch on his wrist: a steel chronograph with a white dial, black registers and a tachymeter bezel. The column names neither the actor nor a reference, and TVmaze's episode record does not credit the performer. (Sports Hankook; TVmaze)
