Watches

Lorus Tidal LR0021
Worn by Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle. Season-one prop master Lynda Reiss supplied the vintage Lorus from her own kit and selected it to suggest Cohle's long history with the watch. Reiss told Hodinkee the watch is a Lorus Tidal from her personal kit, chosen for the look of something Cohle had owned a long time, and that the showrunner left the choice to her and the actor; Marty Hart's watch, she said, was an unmarked square watch of Russian origin she conceived as a gift from his Korea-veteran father. (Hodinkee) Forumamontres member fifo reported in May 2015 that, after research on WatchUSeek and an e-mail to the series' head props master, the watch was confirmed as a 1990s Lorus quartz rather than a Submariner on rubber or a Citizen. (Forumamontres)
Casio W87H-1V
Worn by Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro. The Tokyo dealer Commit Ginza's "Actor's Watch" column of January 2023 names a Casio Basic Digital, model W-87H, on Colin Farrell's corrupt detective Ray Velcoro in the second season (2015), giving the model without a suffix and no basis beyond a wrist-frame-and-product composite it credits to the fan site casiofanmag.com, whose page is no longer online. No independent source puts the watch on Velcoro. A November 2021 r/casio post instead puts the W-87H on Taylor Kitsch's Paul Woodrugh, with two HBO publicity stills showing a round black Casio digital on his wrist, and the frame the column reproduces shows a scarred bare torso, which fits Woodrugh's scarred body better than Velcoro. Casio AMW-320
Worn by Mahershala Ali as Wayne Hays. In the third season's earliest timeline Det. Wayne Hays wears a big Casio, which prop master Lynda Reiss identifies to Hodinkee as the AMW320R-1EV, the steel-cased analog-digital diver with a digital readout in the centre of the dial; Reiss changed his watches as the season's timelines aged him. Recorded on the AMW-320 family page. (Hodinkee) Forumamontres member adneim identified a Casio on Hays in the 1980s timeline in January 2019 from a photograph of his screen, and Sandsman noted that the model dated from the 2000s. Timex Easy Reader
Worn by Mahershala Ali as Wayne Hays. As the older Wayne Hays, Ali wears a Timex Easy Reader on a stretch bracelet, the simpler watch Reiss gave the character for legibility in old age; for the middle period she told Hodinkee she went for a gold-tone watch on a metal band, likely a Timex or a Casio, which is not identified. (Hodinkee)
