The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph, reference 25860, is the first chronograph in the Royal Oak line, launched in 1997 for the model's twenty-fifth anniversary — twenty-five years after Gérald Genta drew the original as a steel watch priced like a gold one, with an octagonal bezel held by eight visible hexagonal screws over a Grande Tapisserie waffle dial. The chronograph keeps that 39 mm case and integrated bracelet, adding two registers and a date while running the calibre 2385, Audemars Piguet's build of the Frédéric Piguet 1185 automatic chronograph. Collectors call the reference the "Kasparov" after the chess champion who wore one. (Grail Watch)
