The Must de Cartier Tank is the more attainable diffusion line Cartier introduced in 1977 amid rising gold prices, casing the rectangular Tank silhouette in vermeil, gold-plated sterling silver, rather than solid gold, and fitting either an inexpensive quartz movement or a manual caliber depending on the reference. Early examples carry the "Must de Cartier" script over a plain lacquered dial in red, blue, or black with no numerals; later references add Roman numerals, and the line ran into the 1990s across many reference and colorway variants. Jackroad's costume-loan archive credits Shinnosuke Mitsushima with a "Cartier Must Tank" for Doctor-Y: Surgeon Hideki Kaji, the sixth annual Doctor-X spinoff installment, naming only the line.
