The Cartier Tank Française is the Tank Cartier launched in 1996, the first in the line drawn from the outset around a fully integrated metal bracelet rather than fitted with a generic one. Its brancards run unbroken into pointed links, and the case is squarer and more angular than the slender Louis Cartier Tank, keeping the collection's Roman numerals, blued sword hands and octagonal crown set with a blue cabochon. The model has always spanned several sizes: smaller references, including the quartz 2384, measure about 20 mm across the case, while the largest time-only versions run mechanical movements. That bracelet-and-case unity made it one of Cartier's commercial successes of the late 1990s and a fixture of the era's dress-watch look. (Revolution, Time and Tide)
