The Omega Speedmaster Mark III reference 176.002 was Omega's first Speedmaster with an automatic movement, introduced in 1971 and built around the calibre 1040, developed with Lemania as the Speedmaster Professional's own calibre 861 continued alongside it in the manual-wind Moonwatch. Its oversized, hooded-lug steel case, 41 mm wide and 51.6 mm long, is nicknamed the "volcano" case for its domed profile, a design language shared with the manual-wind Omega Speedmaster Mark II. Omega produced the 176.002 for about two years, 1971 to 1973, across black, silver, and blue dial executions before discontinuing it. (Fratello Watches)
