The Rolex Air-King traces to the Air-Tiger, Air-Lion, Air-Giant and Air-King family Rolex introduced after the Second World War in tribute to the Royal Air Force pilots of the Battle of Britain, of which only the Air-King survived past the 1950s. Stripped to a plain three-hand dial with no date or complications, the Oyster case and self-winding movement have carried the model with only incremental changes for most of its run, making it one of Rolex's longest-lived and most understated references.
