Ed O'Neill, born in 1946, is an American actor and former Youngstown State defensive lineman who was cut from the Pittsburgh Steelers' 1969 training camp before drama school redirected him. He spent eleven seasons as shoe salesman Al Bundy on Married... with Children (1987-1997) and another eleven as patriarch Jay Pritchett on Modern Family (2009-2020), earning three Emmy nominations for the latter.
