A present-day treasure hunter searching the wreck of the RMS Titanic for a fabled diamond necklace instead recovers a decades-old nude sketch, drawing an elderly survivor to come forward and tell her story. (Wikipedia) Written and directed by James Cameron, the film stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as the doomed couple at the heart of its 1912 narrative and Bill Paxton as Brock Lovett, whose expedition frames the story. Released in December 1997, it became the first film to gross a billion dollars worldwide and has since passed $2.2 billion across its original run and re-releases.

A Sotheby's Important Watches lot, consigned from the original owner, underwater cinematographer Al Giddings, is titled "Screenworn by Bill Paxton in 'Titanic'": an 18k yellow gold Submariner, ref. 1680/8, with a black "nipple dial," accompanied by a signed Titanic poster and business cards from the production.
