The IWC Yacht Club Ref.811A is IWC's 1967 sportier, water-resistant alternative to the dressier Ingenieur line, cased in a 35 mm tonneau-shaped steel or gold case built on the in-house automatic caliber 8541 and its Pellaton winding system. The "A" suffix distinguishes this no-date execution from the "AD" (automatic date) version of the same base reference, both sold alongside a range of dial colors including black, blue and the line's later "marble"-effect finishes. Jackroad's costume-loan archive credits Hidetoshi Nishijima's Minoru Aose, a struggling architect commissioned to design a house he would want to live in himself, with the reference in North Light, NHK's adaptation of Hideo Yokoyama's novel.
