Akira and Akira is a Japanese drama adapting Jun Ikeido's banking novel of the same name, broadcast on WOWOW Prime from 9 July to 3 September 2017 across nine episodes. The story follows two men who share the given name Akira and grow up on opposite sides of Japan's banking hierarchy: Takumi Saitoh plays Akira Yamazaki, heir to a family-run regional bank, and Osamu Mukai plays Akira Kaido, the son of a failed small-business owner who claws his way up through a major city bank, their rivalry and eventual alliance tracking the merger politics reshaping Japanese finance.
