The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is the steel luxury sports watch Gérald Genta drew for Audemars Piguet in 1972: an octagonal bezel clamped by eight exposed hexagonal screws over a visible gasket, a "Tapisserie" guilloché dial and a bracelet integrated into the case. The original 39 mm reference 5402 carried the ultra-thin automatic calibre 2121 with no seconds hand and ran to 6,050 pieces across all metals; the "Jumbo" line continued through the 14802, 15002, 15202 and 16202, while selfwinding models with centre seconds and date, chronographs, Offshores and gold executions followed. No single reference describes the line, and the appearances recorded here are identified to the Royal Oak alone. (Monochrome, AP Chronicles)
