My People, My Country (我和我的祖国) is a seven-segment anthology film marking the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, each segment directed separately. Four of its watches appear in "Going Home" (回归), Xue Xiaolu's segment dramatizing the 1997 Hong Kong Handover: Wai Ying-hung plays police officer Lian Jie, Simon Yam plays her husband Hua Ge, a watch repairman, and Wang Luoyong plays Chief of Protocol An Wenbin. A fifth watch appears in "One for All" (护航), Wen Muye's segment about a fighter pilot backup crew for a military flyover, where Song Jia plays pilot Lü Xiaoran. Released on 30 September 2019, the film was one of the year's highest-grossing mainland Chinese releases. (Wikipedia)
Watches
- Casio A178WA-1A
- Worn by Wai Ying-hung as Lian Jie (蓮姐), "Sister Lian". xbiao.com names the Hong Kong police officer's watch as a Casio A178WA-1A digital quartz watch. (xbiao.com) The source separately flags a production anachronism: this reference launched in 2002, five years after the "Going Home" segment's 1997 setting.Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung
- Worn by Simon Yam as Hua Ge (华哥), a watch repairman. xbiao.com identifies the watch repairman's own watch as a vintage Blancpain Fifty Fathoms sold under "Aqua Lung" branding, citing the "No Radiations" tritium-safety mark as the identifying dial detail. In the story, he gives his late father's watch to his wife, police officer Lian Jie, so the couple can coordinate the exact timing of the handover ceremony. - Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung
- Worn by Wai Ying-hung as Lian Jie (蓮姐), "Sister Lian". Later in the same segment, Lian Jie wears the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung her husband gave her, the same physical watch as the row above, now worn to time the handover ceremony. (xbiao.com)Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Blancpain Villeret Split Seconds Chronograph (Caliber 1186)
- xbiao.com names the official's watch as a Blancpain split-seconds chronograph in 18K gold on Caliber 1186, with no reference given. (xbiao.com)Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Rolex Daytona (fake)
- Worn by Wang Luoyong as An Wenbin (安文彬), Chief of Protocol. xbiao.com states plainly that An Wenbin's Rolex Daytona, built to resemble reference 16523, is a counterfeit: a missing crown logo at 12 o'clock, an unscrewed water-resistance crown, and a sub-dial arrangement inconsistent with a genuine period-correct 16523. (xbiao.com) The source separately notes that the real An Wenbin, a protocol officer during the actual handover, is on record as having purchased a precision American watch synchronized against the Greenwich and Purple Mountain observatories; that is a fact about the real person, not about this film appearance.Scene image neededSubmit a scene still!
- Seagull 1963
- Worn by Song Jia as Lü Xiaoran (吕潇然), a fighter pilot. In the "One for All" (护航) segment, xbiao.com names pilot Lü Xiaoran's watch as a Seagull 1963 reissue chronograph (~¥4,980), tying it to the real historical "304" military aviation chronograph program the Tianjin Watch Factory ran from 1961 to 1968.
