Seiko logo

Seiko grew from Kintarō Hattori's 1881 Tokyo shop into a vertically integrated manufacturer producing its own movements, cases, dials, and quartz crystal oscillators. The 1969 Astron introduced the world's first quartz wristwatch, reshaping the industry, while Grand Seiko has certified its watches since 1966 against an in-house chronometer standard stricter than the official Swiss benchmark. Spring Drive and long-running professional diver lines complete an unusually broad technical range. (Wikipedia; Grand Seiko official history)
